Western Command intensifies flood relief operations in Punjab, Jammu; Lt Gen Katiyar reviews situation

Chandigarh, August 31, 2025 – Responding to the devastating floods in parts of Jammu and Punjab, the Western Command of the Indian Army has launched massive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, deploying 47 columns, including Army Aviation and IAF helicopter units, along with engineers, medical teams, and communication resources.
Aviation assets were pressed into extensive service, with 20 aircraft – including three Advanced Light Helicopters, ten reconnaissance and observation helicopters, six Mi-17s, and one Chinook – carrying out evacuation missions and delivering essential relief materials to stranded civilians.
Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, Army Commander, Western Command, visited flood-affected forward areas to review the ongoing rescue and relief efforts. He was briefed on the coordinated operations being conducted in partnership with state administration, police, and civil authorities.
Expressing satisfaction at the swift deployment and preparedness of troops, Lt Gen Katiyar lauded the round-the-clock efforts in evacuating stranded families, providing medical aid, ensuring supplies, and restoring connectivity. He also praised the synergy between the Army, police, and civil administration, calling it a vital factor in mitigating the crisis.
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment, Western Command stated it will continue to provide every possible assistance to support civil administration and affected populations until normalcy is fully restored.
