From Roadside Vendor to E-Rickshaw Owner: MP Arora Helps Sonam Arora Start Anew
Support from MP Arora enables young girl to take a step toward self-reliance
Ludhiana, May 8, 2025: A life of struggle took a hopeful turn for Sonam Arora, a young girl from Ludhiana, as she became the proud owner of an e-rickshaw, thanks to the timely support and initiative of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora.
Sonam, who once sold items as a roadside vendor near the city bus stand to support her ailing mother and younger siblings, has now found a path toward self-reliance. The e-rickshaw, donated under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds through the District Red Cross Society (DRCS), was formally handed over to her by MP Sanjeev Arora. The event was held in the presence of DRCS secretary Navneet Joshi and other local dignitaries.
“I’m highly grateful to MP Arora for acceding to my request without delay,” said an emotional Sonam. “This opportunity to earn with dignity is a blessing for me and my family. I never thought I’d get such a big chance.”
MP Arora, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the need to support grassroots efforts aimed at uplifting the underprivileged. “Every citizen deserves the opportunity to live with dignity,” he said. He added, “I’m glad I could help Sonam take a step toward a better future. Her courage and determination are truly inspiring.” He also thanked the Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain for promptly acting on his request to assist the deserving young girl through the District Red Cross Society (DRCS).
Sonam, who has studied up to Class XII, recalled her meeting with the MP a few days ago. “When I shared my story, he listened patiently and assured me of help. To be honest, I doubted his promise at first — people often say politicians don’t mean what they say. But MP Arora proved otherwise,” she said, her voice filled with renewed hope.
DRCS Secretary Navneet Joshi added, “As per the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the President of DRCS, we were able to facilitate this donation under CSR funds. We’re hopeful this initiative will create a real difference in Sonam’s life.”
With her new e-rickshaw, Sonam now earns a living in Ludhiana by proudly driving, instead of selling on the roadside.
