Chandigarh, May 8, 2025:
Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, Chandigarh's Crime Branch arrested two members of a terrorist group planning a major attack in the city. The suspects, linked to the notorious Happy Passia gang, were apprehended with a large cache of weapons, including time bombs and RDX, in a jungle area near Sector-39's Jiri Mandi.
The operation, led by SP Jasbir Singh and Inspector Satwinder Singh, thwarted a plot to destabilize the capital of Punjab and Haryana. Intelligence inputs from the IB had warned of Happy Passia’s plan to target a police station in Chandigarh’s southern area, prompting heightened security measures.
The arrests come weeks after Happy Passia, a most-wanted gangster, was detained in the US by the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement in April.
