Gurdaspur (Punjab), August 4, 2025: Farmer leader Inderpal Singh Bains, Punjab Youth President of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) and National President of the Sada Punjab Federation, has alleged receiving repeated extortion and death threats from a foreign number, raising serious concerns about his safety and the apathy of law enforcement authorities.
In a formal complaint submitted to senior police officials, Bains claimed he received a call demanding ₹1 crore, with the caller threatening to enter his home and harm him if the money was not paid.
The call reportedly came from an international number earlier today, intensifying the farmer leader’s fears.
Bains also revealed that this is not an isolated incident. “I have been receiving threats for quite some time now. I even informed the police through a written letter in 2024,” he said.According to him, suspicious individuals have been keeping surveillance on his movements and attempting to raid his residence.
The farmer leader said he had earlier filed complaints on May 26, 2025, and again after a suspicious raid attempt on July 27, 2025, but both times, the police allegedly failed to take any meaningful action.
“Despite multiple warnings, the police have shown no urgency. If anything happens to me or my family, the responsibility lies squarely with the administration,” he stated firmly.
Inderpal Singh Bains is a well-known face in Punjab’s farmer politics and had also contested the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections under the banner of the farmers’ union. His stature in the farming community and continued activism has raised questions over whether the threats are politically motivated or part of a larger extortion racket targeting outspoken leaders.
