Patiala (Punjab), October 12, 2025: The community-driven cleanliness campaign “Mera Patiala Main Hi Sawaara” gathered remarkable momentum on Sunday morning when Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav joined citizens in a cleanliness drive, taking part hands-on as a Swachhta Warrior.
A group of local residents assembled near Baradari, along the Vigilance Office-Patiala Club Road stretch, and began picking up plastic waste, bottles, wrappers, and other litter from the roadside. The drive, aimed at promoting cleanliness, sanitation, and beautification, saw active participation from people of all walks of life.
Dr. Preeti Yadav helped collect garbage alongside volunteers, saying that just as families clean their homes before Diwali, citizens must also take responsibility for keeping public spaces clean. “A clean city is a reflection of its people. We all must contribute to keeping Patiala beautiful, so we can give a better and cleaner environment to our future generations,” she said.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the enthusiastic involvement of businessman, women, doctors, senior citizens, and retired officers from the defence forces, police, engineering, and administration, calling the drive a true symbol of civic pride. “It was a wonderful experience to be part of the Patialvis Swachhta Drive. The spirit of teamwork and public participation here is commendable,” she added.
Dr. Preeti Yadav informed that the “Mera Patiala, Main Hi Sawaara” movement has already brought visible improvements in areas like Polo Ground and Passy Road. More than 2,000 kilograms of trash have been collected in recent drives, showcasing the strength of collective action.
The campaign’s focus, she said, is on long-term sustainability through active citizen engagement. While the Municipal Corporation and district administration extend full support, stronger community ownership will ensure lasting impact.
Organisers HPS Lamba and Col. J.V. Singh (Retd) thanked DC Dr. Yadav for joining the drive, describing her participation as “electrifying and motivational.” They added that plans are underway to adopt one area as a model pilot project to maintain and beautify collectively.
Over 60 citizens participated in the Sunday drive, including Gurmeet Singh Sadana, Capt. Sukhjit Kaur, and Varun Malhotra, who said the event reflected the growing civic spirit among Patialvis. “Our effort is not just about cleaning streets but about igniting responsibility and pride in every citizen,” said Lamba.
