Chandigarh, December 30, 2025: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Bhagwant Mann–led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, accusing it of running an “event management company” instead of a serious government.
Reacting to the ongoing special session of the Punjab Assembly, Badal termed it a “pure media stunt,” claiming that, like previous such sessions, it would not deliver any concrete benefit to the people of Punjab.
He alleged that while the AAP government has convened multiple special sessions, it has done zero follow-up on resolutions passed earlier on key issues such as BBMB, RDF, drugs, and flood relief and rehabilitation.
The SAD chief demanded that the AAP government clarify what it intends to do for beneficiaries of the VB G RAM G scheme instead of indulging in what he called “sham propaganda exercises.”
Targeting the government over MNREGA implementation, Badal said the AAP regime has a “miserable record” in delivering employment to the poor, averaging only 25–30 days of work per year—among the lowest in the country. He alleged that this failure stemmed from the state government’s inability to contribute its mandatory 10 per cent share to the scheme.
Badal further accused the government of squandering hundreds of crores of rupees on advertisements and self-promotion rather than using funds to uplift the poor. “Instead of benefitting the underprivileged, the government has prioritised fake publicity,” he said.
Emphasising the plight of Punjab’s working class, Badal asserted that the state’s “kirti mazdoor bhaichara” deserves genuine employment opportunities, not what he described as political “tamasha.”
