Holiday declared in this district of Punjab on Jan 17

Malerkotla (Punjab), January 7, 2026: The Punjab Government has declared a holiday in Malerkotla district on January 17 under the Negotiable Instruments Act in connection with the state-level observance of Kuka Shaheedi Diwas.
Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tirkey informed that a state-level function will be organised in Malerkotla on January 17 to pay tribute to the 66 Namdhari Singhs who laid down their lives for the country’s freedom. The day will be observed as Kuka Shaheedi Diwas with due respect and remembrance.
In view of the event, the Deputy Commissioner has announced a holiday on Saturday, January 17, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, in all government and semi-government offices, private schools, educational institutions, banks and other establishments in the district, enabling people to participate in the commemorative programme.
However, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that this order will not apply to educational institutions, universities, boards, schools and colleges where examinations are already scheduled or underway.
