Workshop aims to focus on safety and vision
80 school bus drivers trained at Road Safety Workshop jointly by Transport Dept-Mayank Foundation
Ferozepur, January 14, 2026: In a significant move to bolster road safety and ensure the well-being of students, the Mayank Foundation, in collaboration with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Ferozepur, organized a comprehensive School Bus Drivers Orientation Workshop today. The event, held as part of the National Road Safety Month, aimed to instill a sense of responsibility among drivers and update them on the latest safety protocols.

The workshop saw an active turnout of approximately 80 school bus drivers from across the Ferozepur Sub-division, reflecting a strong collective commitment toward child safety. Rakesh Kumar opened the session by outlining the Mayank Foundation’s mission to improve social welfare through road safety advocacy, highlighting the foundation's continuous efforts in the region.
A detailed technical session was conducted by Ashwani Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Foundation, who focused on the critical interpretation of road signs, traffic markings, and the importance of disciplined driving behavior in preventing accidents. Adding to the policy framework, Lakhveer Singh, a retired police officer, delivered an insightful lecture on the Safe School Transport Policy, reminding drivers that they are the primary guardians of young lives during transit.
Addressing the broader consequences of road accidents, Deepak Sharma spoke about the alarming rise in road crash victims and the resulting socio-economic impact, urging drivers to adopt safer practices. Representing the RTO, Inderjeet Singh Brar briefed participants on essential traffic laws and the mandatory documentation required for school bus operations to ensure full legal compliance and safety preparedness.
Recognizing that clear vision is the first line of defense on the road, an eye screening camp was organized in partnership with local Eye Hospital. During the check-up, around 20 drivers were identified with eyesight-related issues and were advised on corrective measures, including the use of spectacles.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Rajiv Setia, Secretary of Mayank Foundation, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, collaborating partners, and drivers for their participation. The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to continue working alongside government agencies and health institutions to foster a culture of responsible driving throughout Ferozepur.
