KVK organises vocational training course on 'Value addition of horticulture crops'

Nawanshahr February 24,2026- The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya, (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar) under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR -ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana, organized a vocational training course on ‘Value Addition of Horticulural Crops’ .Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Langroya presided over. He emphasized the nutritional significance of seasonal fruits and vegetables for human health.
Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Home Science) at KVK, conducted theoretical and practical sessions about the processing of raw fruits and vegetables into a wide range of modern value-added products. She underlined the importance of value addition to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables and ensure a steady supply of nutritious food throughout the year. Participants learned to make nutritious and tasty recipes including:
Preserves: Guava, Papaya and kinnu jams, Carrot, Amla chutney and Tomato sauce.
Beverages: Lemon and Orange squashes
Pickles: Lemon, Mushroom and Turmeric (haldi) pickles
Confectionery: Tutti Fruiti
These demonstrations showcased the potential of fruits and vegetables in creating diverse and marketable food products. Mrs Renu Bala, Demonstrator (Home Science) delivered a lecture on the critical aspects of professional packaging and labelling to ensure products are market-ready. Dr. Arti Verma, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the strategic importance and nutritional benefits of establishing home kitchen gardens for sustainable living.
In closing remarks, Dr. Rajinder Kaur advised the trainees to adopt value addition of fruits and vegetables for sustainable income in agriculture and thanked to all the participants for attending this training camp.
