Punjab government’s initiative, Mission Pragati, aimed at providing free and targeted coaching for competitive exams, has started delivering promising results. From the first batch of 40 students trained at the District Library, six have successfully secured government jobs.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman shared these achievements at a felicitation ceremony organized for the outgoing batch. The event also witnessed the presence of DIG Harjeet Singh, who personally taught mathematics to the students, and SSP Dr. Jyoti Yadav Bains.
Dhiman emphasized that these six achievers serve as role models for others aspiring to succeed in competitive exams. He highlighted that under Mission Pragati, the government has offered free, high-quality coaching to students over a three-month period, significantly aiding them in realizing their career goals.
Launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on January 11 at the district library, the initiative has been a game-changer for rural students who previously faced challenges in accessing quality coaching centers due to financial and travel constraints. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of subjects, including general knowledge, history, geopolitics, economics, mathematics, geography, English, and other areas pertinent to competitive exams.
The coaching program aligns its content strictly with the syllabus requirements of government exams. Additionally, a free physical training program is running simultaneously at the local Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Stadium. This component prepares young aspirants for physical assessments required for recruitment into police and armed forces. The next batch under Mission Pragati is set to commence on April 1.
DIG Harjeet Singh lauded the District Library's strategic location near the bus stand, making it easily accessible for students commuting from nearby rural areas. He urged students to maintain discipline and strive for greater achievements, noting that this government initiative has been particularly beneficial for those from economically humble backgrounds.
SSP Dr. Jyoti Yadav Bains advised students to minimize distractions from mobile phones and social media to maintain focus on their studies. She pointed out that Mission Pragati not only provides free coaching but also grants access to top-quality educational resources, including books.
During the event, DIG Harjeet Singh, DC Rajesh Dhiman, and SSP Dr. Jyoti Yadav personally honored the successful candidates and recognized the library faculty for their dedicated efforts in guiding students toward their aspirations.
Among the standout achievers is Rajpreet Singh from Bhagwangarh village, who has passed three competitive exams and secured four government posts.
These include Clerk in the Technical Education Department (Rank 5), Executive Assistant in the Labour Department (Rank 3), Senior Assistant-cum-Inspector in Nagar Panchayat (Rank 19), and Senior Assistant in the DC Office (Rank 29). Similarly, Harpreet Singh from Malwala village has been selected for the Punjab Police, while Amandeep Singh from Rameana Jaito has also secured a position with Punjab Police. Ramandeep Singh from Thandi Kadim village in Jalalabad has been chosen for the Navy. Jasleen Kaur from Sivian village passed the IIT JAM Chemistry 2026 exam, and Prabhjot Singh from Anup Nagar Bathinda was selected for a Clerk position.
Promising Future Initiatives
As the first batch concludes on a triumphant note, preparations are already underway for the second round of training, scheduled to commence on April 1.
With such stellar outcomes in its debut round, Mission Pragati holds enormous promise as a game-changer for many young aspirants seeking to build careers in government services.
For countless talented individuals from less privileged backgrounds, this initiative is more than just an opportunity; it’s a life-changing, lifeline leading to personal growth, financial stability, and societal contribution. Bathinda is now a shining example of what focused initiatives can accomplish when coupled with unwavering dedication and community support.
