Amritsar (Punjab), April 20, 2026: The Jathedar Hawara Committee has strongly reacted to the recent violent clash inside a Gurdwara in Duisburg, Germany, expressing deep disappointment and concern among Sikhs worldwide.
According to the committee, the incident — which reportedly involved groups clashing inside the shrine, with turbans being dislodged and swords used — has hurt religious sentiments and undermined the sanctity of the Gurdwara.

Initial reports suggested the dispute may have been linked to a property issue. However, further inputs indicate that the conflict stemmed from disagreements over the “Golak” (donations made by devotees). The committee stated that when offerings become the cause of confrontation, it goes against the core principles of Gurmat and can be viewed as a “betrayal of the Guru.”
The committee emphasised that as per the Sikh code of conduct, individuals involved in such acts of violence within a place of worship are guilty of serious misconduct and are liable for religious punishment.
Expressing concern over the wider impact, the committee said such incidents risk alienating the younger generation, who visit Gurdwaras seeking spiritual guidance and peace. It added that internal conflicts of this nature weaken the sanctity and sovereignty of Sikh institutions.
The committee has called for accountability and urged the community to uphold the values of discipline, unity, and respect within religious spaces.
