PAU-KVK urge farmers for balanced fertilizer use based on soil testing
Ferozepur, May 6, 2026: A farmers’ awareness camp was organized by the PAU–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, at village Ferozeshah under the leadership of Deputy Director Dr. Gurmel Singh to promote the balanced use of chemical fertilizers.
During the camp, Dr. Bhallan Singh Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), advised farmers to apply fertilizers in major crops, vegetables, and fruits strictly based on soil testing. Highlighting the importance of the Soil and Water Testing Laboratory at KVK, he urged farmers to get their soil tested before the sowing of the paddy crop in the upcoming season.
He also provided detailed guidance on the correct method of collecting soil samples. Dr. Sekhon informed that if the recommended dose of DAP fertilizer has already been applied to the wheat crop, there is no need to apply additional phosphorus fertilizers to the paddy crop.
Farmers were also informed that seeds of PAU-recommended paddy varieties such as PR-131, PR-132, PR-126, and the newly introduced PR-133 are available at the KVK. Additionally, information was shared on seed treatment and disease management in basmati cultivation.
Dr. Divya Jain, Assistant Professor (Home Science), highlighted vocational training courses offered by KVK for rural women and shared insights on value addition of agricultural produce.
The camp concluded with an interactive session where farmers’ queries were addressed satisfactorily.
