Edmonton (Canada), December 27, 2025: The death of a 44-year-old Indian-origin man after reportedly waiting for more than eight hours for medical treatment at a Canadian hospital has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny of emergency healthcare delays in the country.
According to media reports, the victim’s wife has sought accountability from hospital authorities, alleging negligence that may have contributed to his death.
Prashant Sreekumar, an accountant by profession, was reportedly taken to Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton on December 22 after experiencing severe chest pain at his workplace. Media reports said he was registered at the triage desk but was then asked to wait in the hospital’s waiting area instead of receiving immediate medical attention.
According to reports, Prashant’s condition worsened during the prolonged wait, and he later suffered a suspected cardiac arrest. He was subsequently declared dead, triggering grief and anger among his family members and the local Indian community.
His wife, speaking to the media, reportedly said she is seeking justice and wants those responsible to be held accountable, stating that timely treatment could have saved her husband’s life.
