Canada: New rules for driving come into force in Ontario

Toronto, July 13, 2026: Ontario province has implement 10 major changes for driving in the state. 9 out of these 10 changes have been implemented from July 1, 2026 whereas 10th condition will come into force from January 1, 2027 though announcement for the same has been made in June 2026.
According to these new rules, Mandatory Ignition Interlock means Drivers convicted for impaired-driving offences occurring on or after July 1, 2026 must install an in-car breathalyzer, Six-Month Zero-Tolerance means No alcohol or drugs while driving for six months post-interlock, Administrative Licence Suspension involves Immediate roadside suspension for zero-tolerance violations, Foreign Licence Restrictions involve 12-month credit cap; must pass G2 and G tests, Fee Freeze- Annual increases cancelled for road tests and licences, CVOR Oversight Expansion- Registrar can add conditions to CVOR certificates at any time, Administrative Penalties- Online payment for commercial operator penalties, Towing Rules Strengthened- Photo documentation; visible markings; fee freeze until 2027, Highway Speed Increases- 110 km/h permanent on Highway 401 and 416 sections, Class A Experience Rule- At least six months of full G licence experience within the previous twelve months required before full Class A road test.
