US Embassy in Lebanon says citizens "have opportunity to reclaim country"
Beirut [Lebanon], May 1, 2026 (ANI): US Embassy in Lebanon on Friday said that Lebanon stands at a crossroads where its people have the opportunity to reclaim their country as an independent nation.
The Embassy said that has given Lebanon the space and the opportunity to put all of its legitimate demands on the table with the full attention of the United States Government.
"Lebanon stands at a crossroads. Its people have a historic opportunity to reclaim their country and shape their future as a truly sovereign, independent nation. Direct engagement between Lebanon and Israel, two neighboring countries that should have never been at war, can mark the beginning of a national revival. The extended Cessation of Hostilities, achieved at the personal request of President Trump, has given Lebanon the space and the opportunity to put all of its legitimate demands on the table with the full attention of the United States Government."
The Embassy said that a direct meeting between Israel and Lebanon's leaders will guarantee full sovereignty under the watch of the US.
"A direct meeting between President Aoun and Prime Minister Netanyahu, facilitated by President Trump, would give Lebanon the chance to secure concrete guarantees on full sovereignty, territorial integrity, secure borders, humanitarian and reconstruction support, and the complete restoration of Lebanese state authority over every inch of its territory--guaranteed by the United States," the Embassy added.
The US affirmed support to Lebanon.
"This is Lebanon's moment to decide its own destiny, one which belongs to all its people. The United States is ready to stand with Lebanon as it seizes this opportunity with confidence and wisdom. The time for hesitation is over," it said.
Earlier on April 23, 2026, US President Donald Trump announced the visit of President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office.
"They actually like each other, Lebanon and Israel. And we had a great meeting with very high officials of Lebanon and very high officials of Israel, and we think that the President of Lebanon and the Prime Minister of Israel over the next couple of weeks will be coming here. They've agreed to an additional three weeks of, I guess, no firing, ceasefire. No more firing. Let's see. We hope that happens. It's not going to happen between them but they do have Hezbollah to think about," he had said. (ANI)
