Youth Congress members ride bullock cart to protest against fuel price hike
Ferozepur, July 13, 2020: Members of the Indian Youth Congress – IYC – on Monday, staging a unique protest, rode a bullock cart to dissent against the hike in diesel and petrol prices in the country and blocked the traffic on the railway overbridge – ROB – for about half an hour.
The protest was led by Yakoob Hatti, President, Indian Youth Congress, Ferozepur under directions of Punjab President, Barinder Singh Dhillon.
Some protesters marched alongside the bullock cart and sitting on it, raising slogans, holding placards in their hands, against the fuel price hike, by the Modi-led government.
The protesters charged that the government is not at all controlling petroleum companies, and common people are heavily burdened.
Bhatti said, When the Congress-led UPA was in power, relief was passed on to the people even though international crude oil prices were soaring whereas the Modi government has been raising petrol and diesel prices, causing problems to the people facing hardships due to the pandemic.
Both the diesel and petrol prices have scaled a new high and hike has been more than 20 times in just over three weeks.
The Centre should take steps to withdraw hike in petrol and diesel prices, and should fix prices affordable for people who have just recovered from the problems created by the lockdown, they demanded.
