Railways bridge on Jammu-Baramulla 326 km track joining Kashmir Valley by June 2021
Ferozepur, October 1, 2020: The construction of super structure of Mega Bridge between Katra-Reasi station yards in Jammu and Kashmir by railways is targeted to be completed by June 2021. Out of 326 km track, 215 km operational track has already been completed
Giving this information, Rajiv Chaudhry, General Manager Northern & North Central Railways said, with a view to provide an alternative and a reliable transportation system to Jammu & Kashmir, Govt. of India planned a 326 km long Railway Line from Jammu to Baramulla joining the Kashmir Valley with the Indian Railways network. Out of total length of 326 km, work has been completed in 215 km and trains are running on this route. The work on intervening stretch of Katra-Banihal section (111 km) is in progress. Construction of a large number of Tunnels and Bridges on this stretch in highly rugged and mountainous terrain is most difficult due to Himalayan geology.
He informed that the bridge no. 39 situated between Katra - Reasi. Reasi yard station is an engineering marvel with high, rectangular, tapered hollow piers, spanning about 490 metres and Reasi station yard located over it. About 7000 million tonnes of reinforcement steel and 6700 million tonnes of structural steel have been used. Launching of girders pertaining to construction of super structure of mega bridge No. 39 between Katra - Reasi. Reasi yard station (Main line +loop line and platforms on both sides) has begun.
The length of this bridge is 490 m and is 105 m high. This bridge has 8 spans Reasi station yard will be situated on this bridge having two lines and platforms. Till date 64m launching has been completed. Incremental launching using state of the art pull-push technology is being done. This bridge is targeted to be completed by June’2021, he added.
