Shergarh (Talwandi Sabo), August 13 : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said the SAD-BJP government would resolve the issue of scarcity of irrigation water availability in villages of this constituency once and for all within the next one year. Addressing jam packed meetings in this village and others including Nasibpura, Bhagwangarh, Dunewala, Malwala, Mannwala, Bangi Deepa, Bangi Rughu, Bangi Nihal Singh Wala, Bangi Ruldu, Kot Bakhtu, besides Raman Mandi town, the Deputy CM said the centre had already cleared Rs 2,500 crore to ensure irrigation water reaches tail end villages in the State and Rs 1,000 crore for brick lining of water channels. \"I assure you that a substantial part of this money will be used to ensure irrigation water reaches tail end villages in this constituency\", he said adding a detailed plan would be made for this purpose and implemented within the next one year. Asserting that the SAD- BJP government stood for all round development, Badal said it was only a few months since the NDA government has taken over in the State but already Punjab was benefitting due to liberal funds being given to the State. \"The State will see further development in the coming days and Talwandi Sabo will also gain once it elects an able leader in Mr Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu to lead it in the Vidhan Sabha\", he added. Outlining the work done to improve the irrigation network in the State, the SAD president said Rs 1100 crore had already been spent on lining of distributaries and minors for proper supply of irrigation water up to tail end villages. He said much more needed to be done but all pleas made to the previous UPA government fell on deaf ears. \"Now that we have our own government at the centre we will modernise the entire irrigation network in the State\", he added. He also listed various pro-people decisions of SAD government liker free power to farm sector, Focal Points, RO system, better road network etc. Stating that the Congress had never done anything for the area, he asked the people to disclose one development work undertaken by Captain Amarinder Singh as MLA of Talwandi Sabo in 1985. He said forget doing any work, Amarinder Singh never even visited the constituency. \"In direct contrast you have the Badal family led by Sardar Parkash Singh Badal which has always nurtured the area as their own.\", he added. He promised to hold a series of Sangat Darshans after the bypoll to resolve all issues of the area people. Stating that the Congress was on a down swing all over the country, he said the Congress government in Haryana which had tried to divide the Sikh community would meet its nemesis in the forthcoming assembly elections in the State. \"I am confident the INLD - SAD coalition will sweep the elections\", he added. In reply to a media query, Badal said SAD-BJP alliance was very firm and both the parties were enjoying very cordial relationship which was solid and unbreakable. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Revenue and Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia called upon the people of Talwandi Sabo to show the door to the anti-people Congress, which believed in divisive politics. He said that Congress was No. 1 enemy of Punjab and decade long misrule of Congress led UPA government has broken the backbone of Punjab’s economy. Squarely blaming the previous UPA government for the woes of the peasantry in the state, Majithia said that due to the ill conceived policies of previous union government the farmers of state were today reeling under a debt. However, Majithia said that with the formation of NDA government at the Centre the days of discrimination with the state were over. Prominent among those present on the occasion include Senior SAD leaders including Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, Virsa Singh Valtoha , Amarjit Singh Sidhu and Balbir Singh Sidhu among others.
