Emerald Ring
Talwandi Sabo/Chandigarh, August 13: The Punjab Congress President, Partap Singh Bajwa, today dubbed the Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance as opportunistic, unprincipled and marriage of convenience which had the record of historical contradictions with the two parties working at cross purposes repeatedly and publicly. The PPCC chief said the depth to which the relations between the two alliance partners had gone down was betrayed from the Punjab Bachao Morcha launched by the former BJP minister Mr Satpal Gosain and the former improvement trust chairman, Mr M M Vyas in Ludhiana to take up the issues concerning industrialists while holding the brazen apathy of the Parkash Singh Badal government directly responsible for the current mess. He referred to the direct attack on the government by one of the members of the Badal cabinet itself, the Local Bodies Ministrer, Mr Anil Joshi, who has been vociferously protesting against some of the decisions of the government. Not only that, this competitive stupidity turned all the more ridiculous when the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, tried to claim credit for certain concessions announced by Mr Joshi. He also referred to the open criticism of the functioning of the Badal government by one of the senior most BJP leader in the state in which the BJP virtually no say with the Deputy Chief Minister taking decisions even relating to the departments held by the ministers from the alliance partner. “Things have come to such a pass that a section of the party leaders in the state has veered around to the view that the BJP ministers should come out of the government rather than facing humiliation and embarrassment and extend support from outside, a situation under which the BJP would have more say in the decision makingâ€, he added. Bajwa pointed out that the BJP had the record of opposing the Akali Dal at crucial junctures and it was the BJP which had been submitting memorandum to the Governor against the Akali Dal. He said even now, the differences between the two alliance partners on several issues had been too blatant. He said these were the two alliance partners which had different perceptions on several critical issues concerning this sensitive border state including the construction of Bhindranwale memorial in the Golden Temple complex. The persons who had been eulogised by the Akali Dal as martyrs were terrorists for the BJP which also included the killers of then Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi and then Chief Minister, Mr Beant Singh. He called upon the BJP to do introspection as to whether it was morally and ethically proper for it to remain in the government under such humiliating and degrading conditions when its ministers had no say in the decision making as all the decisions were being taken by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son. He said the setting up of the six-member panel by the alliance to sort out the irritants was indicative of the rot that had set in and it was to be seen as to how much stamina the BJP had to face the disgrace to continue in the government adding no self-respecting party could work under such humiliation conditions.
