Akali Dal calls off agitation after HC orders government to ensure law and order
Chandigarh, December 8, 2017: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has lifted series of road blockades organised simultaneously in some parts of the state.
The decision followed Punjab and Haryana High Court direction to the state government to ensure law and order and issued notice to the state, DGP and SAD president office on Friday.
However, the SAD president Sukhbir Badal claimed that dharna was called off because the state government had accepted their demands for which dharna was staged.
The demands included withdrawal of police case under section 307 against Akali leaders, inquiry by the ADGP into alleged false cases, transfer of concerned DSP, SHO as well as departmental inquiry and arrest of five Congress workers allegedly involved in the case.
Sukhbir Badal termed the government step of accepting their demands as a big victory of workers and leaders of the Akali Dal. The SAD-BJP candidates would definitely win the MC elections, he claimed.
