Ludhiana, February 27, 2018: Continuing its wining streak in Punjab civic polls, Congress on Tuesday wrested control of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation by wining 62 of total 95 wards, the voting for which was held on February 24.
As expected, the Congress swept the polls the results of which were declared on February 27, the Opposition parties barely touched the double-digit mark. The SAD candidates were declared winners from 11 wards, those of BJP from 10, Lok Insaf Party (LIP) from 7 and the Independents from 4. The main Opposition party in Punjab Vidhan AAP could win from only one ward.
The process of counting votes ended on a peaceful note. All the results were in by 12.30 noon.
The Congress has already swept MC polls of Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar recently.
District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal thanked election staff, police, media and others for their cooperation in holding the polls.
Congress won4,7,9,10,12,13,14,15,16,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,27,33,35,39,43,44,45,47,48,49,51,52,53,56,58,60,63,64,65,66,67,68,69,70,71,72,73,74,75,76,78,80,81,82,83,86,87,88,90,91,92,93,94 and 95 wards.
Shiromani Akali Dal bagged 1,2, 6,17,26,28,29,30,34,46 and 54 wards while the wards 8, 31, 57,59,62,77,79,84,85 and 89 has gone into the kitty of BJP. LIP secured 32, 36, 37,38,40,41 and 50 and AAP from ward 11. Independents won from wards 5, 42, 55 and 61.
