Amritsar, September 23, 2018: Concerned over the recent snatching incidents in Amritsar, Cabinet Minister, OP Soni along with all the elected representatives of the area including GS Aujla, Member Parliament, Rajkumar Verka, Sunil Dutti and Inderbir Singh Bolaria (all MLAs) reviewed the law and order situation in the district along with senior officers from Civil and Police Administration.
He categorically stated that Police Administration is responsible for the safety and security of people of Amritsar as well as the tourists visiting the Holy City. He said that any dereliction in duty will not be tolerated and strict action would be recommended against non performing officers.
Discussing the delay in action over adulterators, Soni said that sending all the samples taken by the food safety teams to Kharar lab and waiting for analysis reports is cumbersome. In the wake of large number of inspections going on in the State, he would take up the issue of setting up a food testing and lab in Majha with the Chief Minister Punjab and work out the modalities for setting up the same at the earliest, so that quick analysis process is facilitated in the region.
He appreciated the work of Food Safety Officers and asked them to maintain the momentum in the wake of ensuing festival season.
Taking a serious note of the alleged inferior quality wheat being supplied to Smart Card holders, the Minister said that quality compromise will not be tolerated. He also directed the Food and Civil Supply Officers to review the status of Smart Cards being made under Food Grain Distribution Scheme and incorporate all the eligible beneficiaries.
To be on guard against the onslaught of heavy rainfall, the Minister recommended the cancellation of leave applications of all the employees of Sewerage and Power department and asked the officers concerned to ensure regular supply of clean drinking water, electricity and other basic amenities to the people.
Environment Minister asked the officers to keep a strict vigil in order to check stubble burning and added that he would personally review the status of the same.
