Sangrur cops rescue kidnapped infant, two women among three arrested

Sangrur, October 17, 2018: A week after he was kidnapped from village Gharachon, an infant was finally recovered in a safe condition by the Sangrur police on Wednesday and handed to his parents.
Three accused including two women involved in the case were arrested. They have been identified as Kuldeep Khan alias Mani of Ratia, Gurmeet Kaur of Sai Colony Tibbi Basti, Sunam and Manjeet Kaur of Mansa.
Briefing mediapersons about the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sangrur, Dr Sandeep Garg informed that the three-month-old baby boy was kidnapped by some unidentified person from village Gharachon of Sangrur district on October 10, 2018. The kidnaper impersonated as a distant relative of the family. He mingled with the family members and took the baby out on the pretext of playing with him and ran away with him.
A complaint was filed on the statement of the baby’s grandfather Ajaib Singh on October 10, 2018. Taking note of the seriousness of the case, the police teams were immediately dispatched to various places in Punjab and Haryana to trace the baby. The sketch of the kidnaper was prepared and an intensive manhunt launched.
On October 16, 2018, the teams received a secret information that a suspected car had been seen moving around in villages Ladda, Benra and Pedni. After zeroing in on the accused, the police teams arrested them and safely rescued the baby who was later handed to his parents in the presence of the senior police officers.
The SSP said that during search of the car used by the accused, the police also recovered uniform of the Punjab Police bearing name of Mani Khan on its name plate. Accordingly, the separate case is being filed.
The investigation, so far, revealed that 18 cases have been registered against the accused Kuldeep Khan in Punjab and Haryana under various charges like theft, cheating and other sections. Out of these 18 cases, he has been convicted in 11, wanted in 2 and acquitted in 3 cases. Two cases are under trial.
