Kuljit Singh Nagra Advisor to CM today launched the distribution of PDS wheat through E-POS (electronic point of sale) machines to smart ration card scheme beneficiaries at a function held at village Balahri Kalan today.
Addressing the gathering Nagra said that under the Smart Ration Card scheme, approximately 3 Lakh beneficiaries belonging to 427 villages of the district will regularly get subsidised wheat in a transparent manner with the help of E-POS machines. He said that the distribution of subsidised wheat and pulses was a brainchild of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who introduced the Food Security Act in 2013. He said that ever since the Capt Amarinder Singh led government was formed, a thorough survey to weed out the ineligible beneficiaries was carried out and distribution of wheat and pulses was started through E-POS machines to control the misuse of the scheme. He said that with the introduction of these machines the corrupt practices will be plugged and now only genuine beneficiaries will get the delivery of food grains.
He urged the beneficiaries to ensure the weighing of wheat being supplied to them as weighing scales have been kept at all the places where wheat is being distributed so that no one is exploited. He assured that the Punjab government is committed to fulfil all its promises made with the people at every cost.
He said that the beneficiaries get wheat in 30 kg sealed bags at Rs 2 per kilogram twice a year, besides this 500 gram of pulses are being distributed per person per onth to eligible beneficiaries at Rs 20 per kilogram.
