New Delhi, January 2, 2020: The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Guwahati (Assam) has sentenced Jiauddin Ahmed, then Dy. Secretary, Veterinary Secretariat Assam; Jugal Chandra Saikia, then Director, Veterinary Directorate, Guwahati; Shri Harekrishna Das, then Store Keeper, ICDP, Howli, Veterinary Directorate & M.Rahman, then Accountant, ICDP, Howli, Veterinary Directorate, all to undergo three years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 50,000/- on each count and private persons U.N.Gogoi, Kamlesh Deka, both partners in M/s. G & B Enterprises & Co. Guwahati; Pallabh Bardoloi, Proprietor, M/s. Jyoti Pharma Guwahati; Arup Baishya, Proprietor, M/s B. B. Associates Guwahati & Amar Jyoti Bezbarua, Proprietor, M/s. Assam Drug House, Guwahati, M/s. Imperial Equipments & M/s. Drug Sea all to undergo three years Simple Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 25,000/- on each count.
CBI had registered this case on 17.05.1994 Under Section 120B, 420, 467, 471, 477A, 201 of the IPC and Under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act 1988 against the accused. It was alleged that certain officials working in the office of District Veterinary, Barpeta and Howli, entered into a criminal conspiracy with the suppliers for cheating the Govt. of Assam through its Veterinary Department and in furtherance of the said criminal conspiracy they misappropriated an amount of Rs. 1,21,35,879.13 (approx.) on false LOCs, Sanction Orders & bills pertaining to purchase of veterinary medicines.
After investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet on 13.02.1997 against accused. The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them.
