Nawanshahr, January 20, 2017 : Kerala Cadre IAS Officer , Suarav Jain has been appointed as General Election Observer for the Punjab Assembly Election scheduled to be held on February 4, at SBS Nagar district. The General Election Observer has assumed charge here. While welcoming the General Election Observer, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Electoral Officer, Vipul Ujwal apprised him the poll arrangements made for the three assembly constituencies - Nawanshahr, Banga and Balachaur in the district. The DC told the Observer that as many as 570 polling booths had been set up in the district to facilitate as many as 4,71,651 electorates to exercise their franchise. Besides, special arrangements including deputing of volunteers for the convenience of as many as 1491 Persons With Disability at the polling stations had also been made.
Saurav Jain, the General Observer while interacting with the officials said that his top priority would be to ensure conducting of smooth, free, fair and impartial election. The violation of model code of conduct would not be tolerated. " He would be available Panchayat Samiti Rest House from 10 to 12 a.m. to personally hear the grievances and problems related to electoral process going on in Nawanshahr, Banga and Balachaur assembly constituencies. Besides, the complainant can contact him on Mobile phone ( 94638 - 77712) or District Manager PUNSUP, Harjit Singh ( 82880-41055) for election related grievances.
The General Observer would hold a meeting with the SDMs cum ROs of Nawanshahr, Banga and Balachaur assembly constituencies to take stock of the poll arrangements in their respective assembly constituencies.
