BJP MP Subramanian Swamy to file PIL in Chandigarh stalking case
Chandigarh, August 7, 2017: It is going to be BJP versus BJP in the highly publicized Chandigarh stalking case involving son of Haryana BJP chief.
The party’s Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy on Monday reportedly declared to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the case amid growing condemnation of the role of Chandigarh police in it.
It is being alleged that the police diluted the stricter sections of law in the case of alleged attempt to abduct the victim woman who is daughter of a senior IAS officer.
Swamy is reported to have decided to file the PIL to safeguard women’s rights and safety which according to him have been compromised in this case.
The Chandigarh police had registered a case against Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala and his friend Ashish under section 354 D (stalking a woman) of the IPC. The accused were let off for this bailable offence.
This led to widespread condemnation from several quarters including resignation of Subhash Barala. The Congress accused the BJP, which is power in the state, of shielding the son of its state unit chief.
