Fatehgarh Sahib, October 12, 2017: SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar, while talking to the media persons here today, outrightly rejected both the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission set up by Amarinder government as well as Zora Singh Commission set up by the previous Badal government for probe into sacrilege cases.
The SGPC was of the firm view that only central government through its agencies can investigate as it has all type of resources at its command. There was no difference between the probe panels set up by the present and previous government, he said adding that Aamrinder government should make public the report of Zora Commission.
He clarified that SGPC has full respect for judiciary and has no issue with the commission rather he is more friendly with Justice Ranjit Singh than Justice Zora Singh, but the question is that they have very limited resources.
He had come here to preside over the Seminar “Challenges before Sikh Community and its remedies” organised by Guru Granth Sahib World University.
Answering another query about the demand of Kuldeep Singh head of Sikh cell of BJP that Sikhs in BJP should be given tickets for contesting Gurudwara elections in Punjab and Delhi as both are alliance partner and contest all elections collectively, he said that it is a political issue and it is up to party president Sukhbir Badal to decide. He said that anyone can contest, who fulfils the norms.
Lashing out at Jathedars appointed by Sarbat Khalsa for unnecessary interference in the working of SGPC, he said that SGPC is supreme body of Sikhs elected by 55 Lakh Sikh voters and it has the authority to appoint Jathedars, no crowd can appoint Jathedars. He urged them not to play in the hands of anti Sikh forces.
He said that SGPC is keen to identify the problems being faced by the community particularly SGPC has launched a campaign against social evils like drugs, dowry, female feticides, suicides and other unethical practices prevailing in society by involving young teachers and students. He said during seminar he heard the views of young generation and formed 101 member committee of young teachers of colleges, universities and students to wage war at grass root level against social evils.
