Nokodar/Jalandhar, March 13,2018: The stage was all set for first of its kind initiative by any state government in the country to bail out its peasantry from the debt trap as the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh would give debt relief to around 40,000 farmers in a function on March 14 at new grain market in Nakodar.
The path breaking is likely to give a relief worth Rs 200 crore to farmers of six districts including Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Moga, Ferozepur and Fazilka. This was second such event in the state as in the first event held at Mansa on January 7, the Chief Minister had disbursed debt relief certificates to the tune of Rs. 167.39 crore to nearly 47000 eligible marginal and small farmers, who had taken loans from 701 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies. As per an estimate debt waiver scheme of the state government was likely to benefit 5.63 lakh farmers in the first phase.
Meanwhile, the district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today gave the final touch to the arrangements for this mega event. Sharma today finalized all the modalities regarding the design and size of Pandaal at the venue besides the other arrangements for the mega event. He said that as huge participation of the people from different walks of life was expected on this historic event, so the district administration would leave no stone unturned to facilitate them.
The DC minutely reviewed all the arrangements and logistics made for the convenience of people by the various committees headed by the senior officers of the district administration. Sharma said that this was a historic occasion and district administration was duty-bound to ensure that this mega event was a huge success.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioners Jasbir Singh and Dr. Bhupinder Singh, Superintendent of Police RS Cheema, Secretary RTA Darbara Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrates Amrit Singh, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Navneet Kaur Bal and Rajeev Verma, Assistant Commissioners Deepak Bhatia and Dr. Barjinder Singh Dhillon, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr. Mukesh Kumar and others were also present.
