Punjab Assembly unanimously demands abolition of GST on Langar of Darbar Sahib
Chandigarh, March 21, 2018: Punjab Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed resolution demanding abolition of GST on Langar at Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar.
The issue was raised by Congress MLA Sukhjinder Randhawa after which Finance Minister Manpreet Badal moved a resolution.
Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh intervened to announce the decision of his government to waive off the state's share in GST paid on Langar. "I’ve assured the Punjab Vidhan Sabha that while continuing to push the Centre for total waiver, we will start refunding our 50% share," Amarinder later tweeted.
Manpreet Badal said the Akalis should either GST abolished by the Centre or Akali Minister in the Modi Cabinet should resign.
BJP MLA Som Parkash demanded that Durgiana Mandir, Amaritsar should also be added in the resolution. Parliamentary Affairs minister accepted this demand.
Manpreet Badal also told the House that their government had thrice opposed levying of the GST on Langar in the meetings of the GST Council but failed to get a positive response.
