New Delhi, May 12, 2026: The NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026 has been officially cancelled across India, the National Testing Agency announced on Monday.
The agency said the decision was taken with the approval of the Government of India after reviewing inputs shared by central agencies and law enforcement authorities. Officials stated that the exam will now be conducted again on new dates, which will be announced separately.
Why the exam was cancelled
According to the NTA, the earlier exam “cannot be allowed to stand” based on findings received during review and coordination with investigating agencies. The matter has also been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a detailed inquiry.
The agency said the step was taken to maintain fairness, transparency, and credibility in the national entrance exam system.
What this means for students
- The NEET (UG) 2026 exam held on May 3 is now invalid
- A fresh exam will be conducted for all registered candidates
- No new registration will be required
- No additional exam fee will be charged
- Candidates’ existing application details and exam centres will remain the same
- Refunds of fees already paid will be processed
NTA has confirmed that admit cards and new exam dates will be released soon through official channels.

Officials also acknowledged that the decision may cause inconvenience but said it was necessary to protect the integrity of the examination system.
