Chandigarh, March 30, 2023:
The struggle being fought under the leadership of Punjabi University Bachao Morcha continued on the 18th day on Thursday. School teachers participated in the march under the leadership of Democratic Teachers Front (DTF). DTF State President Vikram Dev and District Patiala President Atinder Ghagga addressed from the stage.
He said that the Punjab government has abandoned the priority of education and neither does the Punjab government have any model of education. Speaking about the School of Eminence by the Punjab Government, he said that this model is contrary to the concept of Neighborhood School and Right to Education Act suggested by the Kothari Commission to provide school education to students within a radius of 5 km. This model will create division in the delivery of education and will actually serve to take away education. Along with this, the students of Punjab University Chandigarh of Punjab Students Union Lalkar also participated and were addressed by Amandeep and Rashpinder Jimmy.
On this occasion, the leaders of the front, Amandeep Khiuwali and Dr. Rajdeep, while issuing a statement to the press, said that the syndicate of Punjabi University has presented a budget of 285 crores in the total budget of 648 crores. Condemning the Vice Chancellor's statement, he said that on one hand, the Vice Chancellor is thanking the government for giving Rs 360 crore, but on the other hand, they are showing a budget deficit of Rs 285 crore. Thus they are spreading false propaganda that the government has agreed to give the grant.
Similarly, representatives of the Punjab government are included in the syndicate, who agree to this loss, but on the other hand, the finance minister is saying that the full grant will be given. This proves that the Vice Chancellor is working with the government to save his seat and the government wants to escape from giving grants and loans by telling lies. He further said that entire Punjab is standing with the Morcha. In the same vein, tomorrow, March 31, at five o'clock in the evening, the poet will hold a ‘Kavi Darbar’ while participating in the march by writers' associations.
The leaders said that the struggle will continue until a written decision regarding the loan waiver of 150 crores and full grant of Punjabi University. In today's programme, Pritpal from AISF played the role of stage secretary while Ravi Rasoolpur, Lakhwinder, Sandeep, Raman, Kulwinder, Gurjit Ghagga and Jagpal performed revolutionary songs and poems.
