“Sit with us, not in Delhi”: PU students grill AAP MPs during campus visit
Chandigarh, November 6, 2025:
AAP MPs Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Malvinder Kang were confronted by a few protesting students at Panjab University on Thursday, minutes after meeting Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria over the Centre’s move to restructure the varsity’s senate and syndicate.
Some students from the Panjab University Bachao Morcha surrounded the leaders, demanding to know why the party could mobilize sit-ins in Delhi but had not staged similar action in support of the campus agitation, and raised slogans before the MPs left the venue.
Protesters pressed the MPs to call statewide demonstrations and a Punjab bandh, citing a November 10 shutdown call on campus; Meet Hayer said the party had petitioned the Governor, a response students rejected as insufficient.
Later, the Panjab University Bachao Morcha condemned the heckling and assured that such confrontations against any leader would not be repeated, while AAP maintained after its Raj Bhavan meeting that the Centre has no constitutional authority to dissolve the university’s elected bodies.
