Sukhwinder Singh Bindra distributed degrees to students at Desh Bhagat University

Ludhiana, 24 February 2026 – Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member (NISD) and Special Invitee/Member (NCCDR), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, attended the convocation ceremony at Desh Bhagat University and conferred degrees upon the students. On this occasion, the university also honored Sukhwinder Singh Bindra with an Honorary Doctorate Degree.
Speaking at the event, he said that he and his department remain firmly committed to the welfare of Punjab and its youth. He emphasized that continuous efforts will be made to protect young people from drug abuse. He stressed the importance of sports in keeping the younger generation away from drugs and announced that sports kits would be distributed in the coming time to encourage youth participation in sports. He further added that more initiatives would be undertaken to channel the energy of young people in the right direction and motivate them toward positive activities.
Bindra stated that his department consistently works to keep youth away from substance abuse. He said that his department, along with Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, will continue working together for the welfare, development, and empowerment of youth, making every possible effort to prevent drug abuse. He also highlighted the crucial role of youth empowerment and awareness programs in combating substance misuse.
Sukhwinder Singh Bindra further mentioned that he previously served as State Chairperson of the Punjab Youth Development Board (Government of Punjab). During his tenure, he undertook significant initiatives to keep youth away from drugs and inspire them toward sports. Free sports kits were distributed to youth clubs, colleges, and universities to promote sports activities. Additionally, whenever any athlete faced difficulties, efforts were made to resolve them so that their sporting careers would not suffer. He added that even now, his department continues to fully support athletes and address any challenges they encounter.
In conclusion, Bindra expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Cabinet Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar for their visionary leadership and commitment toward empowering the youth of the nation.
