Chandigarh, May 9, 2026: Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has firmly dismissed a public appeal urging him to take up leadership in Punjab’s political landscape, saying he is happy in his current profession and has no intention of entering politics.
Responding to the appeal on social media platform X, Diljit wrote, “Kadey v Nhi… Mera Kam Entertainment Karna. Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much.” The brief response came shortly after a Chandigarh-based group released a full-page public message asking the global Punjabi star to step into a larger public role for the state.
Public Appeal Issued by Retired Officers and Professionals
The appeal was issued by Jago Punjab Manch, a platform comprising retired civil servants, former defence personnel, and professionals. In the published message, the group described Punjab as a state facing deep economic, social, and political challenges and called upon Diljit Dosanjh to become a voice of change.

The document argued that Punjab needed “a citizen of consequence” rather than another conventional politician. It also referred to public frustration over governance, migration, weakening institutions, and rising social divisions.
Concerns Raised Over Punjab’s Future
The appeal highlighted what it described as four major crises affecting the state — mounting debt, deterioration of public institutions, increasing communal polarization, and large-scale migration of Punjabi youth abroad.
The group claimed Punjab’s fiscal condition had weakened significantly over the years, while many young people continued to leave for countries such as Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom in search of better opportunities.
No Plans for Political Entry
Despite the unusual public call, Diljit Dosanjh made it clear that he does not intend to join politics. Known globally for his music, films, and Punjabi cultural representation, the artist has often spoken about social issues but has consistently maintained distance from formal political involvement.
