Chandigarh, May 9, 2026: Amid intense speculation surrounding the alleged arrest of Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora following Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday said that it is still unclear whether the minister has officially been arrested.
The statement came as political circles in Punjab witnessed heightened activity after ED teams conducted searches at Sanjeev Arora’s residence in Chandigarh earlier in the day.
Speaking to a private media outlet, Harpal Cheema said, “Right now, the biggest question is whether he has been arrested or not.” His remarks suggest that there is still no official clarity from either the government or party leadership regarding the reported detention.
When asked about the party’s stand on the issue, the Finance Minister stated that the final decision regarding the political response would be taken by the party high command.
He said the leadership would determine what kind of “action or reaction” should follow depending on developments in the case.
Since morning, ED officials have been carrying out operations linked to the minister’s residence, leading to widespread reports claiming that Sanjeev Arora had been taken into custody in connection with an alleged financial investigation.
However, with the Finance Minister refraining from confirming the arrest, uncertainty continues over the exact status of the case.
The development has added a fresh twist to Punjab’s political landscape, with the government currently appearing to adopt a cautious “wait and watch” approach as the situation unfolds.
