15,158 cases settled through 17 benches during National Lok Adalat in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 9, 2026: In compliance with the directions issued by the National Legal Services Authority, a National Lok Adalat was organised across the country today. Following the instructions of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority organised the National Lok Adalat in the courts of Ferozepur district under the guidance of Sumeet Malhotra, District and Sessions Judge.
A total of 17 benches were constituted across the district for the Lok Adalat proceedings. Out of these, 13 benches were set up in the Session Division courts at Ferozepur, one bench at the Permanent Lok Adalat, two benches at Zira, and one bench at Guruharsahai.
According to the information shared, a total of 20,501 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, out of which 15,158 cases were successfully settled through mutual consent of the parties involved.
Various categories of cases were resolved during the Lok Adalat, including civil disputes, compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce matters, recovery cases, traffic challans, domestic disputes, motor accident claim tribunal cases, pre-litigation matters, bank recovery cases, private finance company disputes, and cases related to mobile and telephone companies.
To facilitate litigants and visitors, help desks were established by the District Legal Services Authority at the public entry gate of the District Court Complex, Ferozepur, as well as at the sub-divisions of Zira and Guruharsahai.
Officials stated that decisions taken in Lok Adalats are final and carry the status of a civil court decree, with no provision for appeal. Such settlements not only provide speedy and affordable justice but also help reduce mental stress and prolonged litigation for both parties.
