15,000+ Youth Join Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar & Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at GNDU Amritsar to Mark 5 Years of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan
Amritsar, 19 Nov 2025- Dr. Virendra Kumar, Cabinet Minister of India and Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Punjab Governor and more than 15,000 students and youth participated in the National Event held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, marking five years of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign).
The event was coordinated by Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Member (NISD) and Special Invitee/Member (NCCDR), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
Bindra stated that eliminating drugs from Punjab is our foremost duty. He emphasized that drug addiction destroys entire families, while the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan provides youth with a new direction—encouraging them towards sports, education, and productive opportunities. He expressed confidence that under the strong leadership of the Ministry, India will move rapidly towards becoming a drug-free nation.
The event saw participation from school and college students, BSF personnel, self-help groups, spiritual organizations, youth clubs, and NGOs.
At a brief program held at the Circuit House in Amritsar, Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar was warmly welcomed by Sukhwinder Singh Bindra along with the NMBA Punjab team.
A special message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi was read out during the event, congratulating all participants and stressing that a drug-free India can only be achieved through collective resolve, continuous community efforts, and active participation of every citizen—especially the youth.
Several Olympians, competition winners, master volunteers, reformed recovering individuals, and contributors to the field of de-addiction were honoured at the ceremony.
The Hon’ble Governor of Punjab also launched four new digital initiatives to further strengthen the NMBA, which included three online portals and one mobile application.
Addressing the gathering, both the Union Minister and Governor appreciated the collective efforts of citizens, youth, women, educational institutions, and spiritual organizations in transforming NMBA into a true people’s movement. The Union Minister reiterated the Government’s unwavering commitment to ending drug addiction and building a healthy, aware, and strong India.
After the program, Dr. Virendra Kumar paid obeisance at Shri Darbar Sahib, offering prayers for the welfare of all. The Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee honoured him with a ceremonial memento.
Bindra thanked every participant—youth, women, institutions, spiritual bodies, and volunteers—whose contribution made the event a success.
