Punjab Governor Kataria lays foundation stone for revitalization of Dhanas Amrit Sarovar

Chandigarh, November 19, 2025 – In a major step towards ecological restoration and sustainable urban development, Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria today laid the foundation stone for the revitalisation of the Amrit Sarovar at Village Dhanas. The initiative, launched under AMRUT 2.0, aims to rejuvenate natural water bodies and strengthen the region’s environmental balance.
The ceremony was attended by MP Sh. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chandigarh Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, Chief Engineer Sh. C.B. Ojha, Area Councillor Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, councillors, senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration, and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Kataria said the project is not just an infrastructure upgrade but a collective commitment to environmental protection, community welfare, and cultural preservation. “Water bodies are lifelines of ecological balance. Reviving them ensures clean water, strengthens biodiversity, and contributes to a healthier future for coming generations,” he stated.
He said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of reviving traditional and ancient water bodies across the country through the Amrit Sarovar programme. The Governor praised the coordinated efforts of the Municipal Corporation, engineers, environmental experts, councillors, and Self-Help Groups for supporting the project.
MP Sh. Satnam Singh Sandhu termed the initiative a model of collaborative governance and emphasised its importance for sustainability and community involvement. Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla highlighted the crucial role of citizen participation and praised women Self-Help Groups for maintaining water bodies across Chandigarh.
Earlier, Area Councillor Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu thanked the Governor and officials for their support and urged the community to take responsibility for protecting the revitalised Sarovar.
