Chandigarh, October 14, 2025: A political storm has erupted in Punjab over the alleged filing of forged Rajya Sabha nomination papers for the seat vacated by AAP MP Sanjeev Arora. The accused, Navneet Chaturvedi, is alleged to have submitted fake documents carrying the forged signatures of 10 AAP MLAs, sparking a fresh confrontation between the Chandigarh Police and Ropar Police.
Punjab Cabinet Minister and AAP’s Punjab President Aman Arora strongly condemned the incident, accusing the BJP and the Chandigarh Administration of “shielding the culprits” and “murdering democracy.”
Ropar Police team with arrest warrants from the court tried to arrest Chaturvedi near Sukhna Lake but some officers of Chandigarh Police stooped them to do so resulting a heated exchange and minor scuffle between cops. At the end team of Chandigarh Police managed to take away Chaturvedi in Police Car to the Police HQ of UT .
“This is not merely a case of forgery—it is a brazen attempt to sabotage democracy and destabilize the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab,” Arora asserted.
He confirmed that the Rupnagar Police have already registered an FIR against Chaturvedi for forgery and related offences. Meanwhile, a jurisdictional tussle has emerged between Chandigarh and Ropar police authorities over the investigation, further intensifying the political tension surrounding the case.
Chandigarh Police did not issue its version till filing of this report at 8 pm.
