Chandigarh, 06 February
The Assam government has announced a six-month extension for Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, an IAS officer from the 1993 batch of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. Originally set to retire on April 30, 2026, Ravi Kota will now continue in his role until October 31, 2026.
This decision was taken by the state government to address administrative needs and ensure continuity in governance. The Personnel Department issued an official notification confirming the extension, which has already come into effect.
Ravi Kota had assumed charge as the Chief Secretary of Assam on April 1, 2024, following the completion of the extended tenure of then Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur (IAS:1989:AM).
The extension comes at a significant time as Assam is scheduled to go to Assembly elections in March–April this year, with polling due across all 126 constituencies.
The notification issued by the Department of Personnel says, “In pursuance of approval of the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training, New Delhi and in the interest of public service, the services of Dr Ravi Kota, IAS (RR: 1993), Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, is extended for a period of 06 months beyond the date of his superannuation, i.e., from 01/05/2026 to 31/10/2026.”
