New Delhi, October 23, 2026: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former MLA Ravinder Singh Brahmpura met party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal at his residence in New Delhi on Friday, holding discussions on political developments and the party’s future in Punjab.
The meeting was attended by Chandni Chowk MLA Punardeep Sawhney and Kanwardeep Singh Brahmpura, son of Ravinder Singh Brahmpura. It was described as Brahmpura’s first formal interaction with Kejriwal since joining the AAP.
During the meeting, Kejriwal recalled the contributions of late Akali leader Jathedar Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, describing him as a committed leader who worked for the Panth, Punjab and Punjabi identity.
Jathedar Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, popularly known as the ‘Majhe Da Jarnail’, spent more than 12 years in prison under laws including the National Security Act (NSA), the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) and the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), according to the press release.
He was elected as an MLA for the first time in 1977 and went on to serve four terms in the Punjab Assembly. He also represented the Khadoor Sahib constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019.
Brahmpura pledges commitment to AAP
Speaking after the meeting, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura reiterated his commitment to the party and said he would fulfil any responsibility assigned to him.
“Following the footsteps of our historical legacy, I will faithfully discharge whatever responsibility the party entrusts to me as a true and dedicated soldier of the Aam Aadmi Party,” he said.
The meeting has drawn attention in political circles in Tarn Taran district and the wider Majha region, given the Brahmpura family’s longstanding political presence in the area.
The press release suggested that the discussions could have implications for the family’s political engagement in the Patti-Naushera Pannuan belt, where Jathedar Ranjit Singh Brahmpura built much of his political base. However, no specific organisational role or constituency-related decision was announced following the meeting.
The interaction comes as the AAP leadership engages with political figures in Punjab ahead of future political developments in the state.
