Municipal Council organizes 2-day ‘Safety & Skill Development’ training for sanitation workers
Ferozepur, February 28, 2026: A two-day safety and skill development training workshop was organized for all sanitation workers of the Municipal Council in line with the directions of the Punjab Government. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Amandeep Kaur.
The workshop was held under the RECKITT initiative, in collaboration with its implementation partners Jagran Pehel and Green Sparsh Foundation, and facilitated by the Harpic World Toilet College (HWTC), Patiala.
The primary objective of the training was to equip sanitation workers with knowledge about occupational safety, personal and workplace health, proper use of safety equipment, waste management practices, appropriate behaviour, and soft skills. Participants included sweepers, garbage collectors, sewer and drain workers, toilet cleaners, and maintenance staff.
During the camp, sanitation workers were provided with “Safai Mitra Passports,” certificates upon successful completion of the training, and safety kits comprising gloves, water bottles, and reflective jackets. Information and assistance were also extended to link workers with various government welfare schemes to ensure their long-term social and economic security.
Prominent attendees included Municipal Council President Rohit Grover, Executive Officer Poonam Bhatnagar, and Superintendent Sanitation Dr. Sukhpal Singh. They interacted with the workers, emphasizing the importance of personal safety, health awareness, and knowledge of their rights and safety standards.
Officials from Harpic World Toilet College stated that the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening the dignity, safety, and confidence of sanitation workers, adding that similar training programmes will continue in the future.
The workshop was organized in the spirit of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which focuses on making India clean and open defecation-free. The mission emphasizes the safety of sanitation workers, mechanized cleaning systems, and the elimination of manual scavenging, highlighting their crucial role in the national cleanliness drive.
