Chandigarh, February 28, 2026: Senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab, including Cabinet Ministers Lal Chand Kataruchak and Laljit Singh Bhullar, on Saturday visited village Gadarian in Dinanagar to meet the family of martyred ASI Gurnam Singh and express condolences on behalf of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The delegation, which also included Working President and Batala MLA Aman Sher Singh Sherry Kalsi and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Gurdeep Singh Randhawa, assured the bereaved family that the Punjab Government stands firmly with them in this hour of grief.
Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar announced that, as per the directions of the Chief Minister, an ex-gratia amount of ₹1 crore each will be provided to the families of the two martyred police personnel, including Ashok Kumar. Additionally, one eligible family member will be given a government job.
“The loss of a loved one can never be compensated, but the Punjab Government stands ready round-the-clock to support the families,” Bhullar said.
Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak termed the killing of ASI Gurnam Singh and Ashok Kumar at the Adhiya outpost a cowardly act and an attack on Punjab’s peace.
“This was not just an attack on the police force, but on Punjab itself. The sacrifice of our martyrs will not go in vain, and the guilty will face the strictest punishment under the law,” he asserted.
Referring to cross-border threats, Kataruchak said hostile elements, including Pakistan’s ISI, have repeatedly attempted to destabilise Punjab. “Such conspiracies will never succeed on our soil,” he added, urging the youth not to fall prey to anti-national forces.
Praising the swift action of Punjab Police, Bhullar said all accused were traced and arrested within 24 hours. “This sends a strong message that anyone disturbing law and order will face zero tolerance,” he said, reiterating the government’s firm stand against gangsterism and drugs.
Aman Sher Singh Sherry Kalsi criticised opposition parties for politicising the incident. “When an unfortunate event occurs, they rush to social media. But when police act swiftly and arrest the accused, they fall silent. Those attempting to disturb Punjab’s peace will not be spared,” he said.
