Chandigarh, October 4, 2026: Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh on Sunday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for suspending MLA Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana from the party’s primary membership, describing the action as “dictatorship” and saying it was not reflective of true democracy.
Reacting to the action, Pargat Singh alleged that AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal did not tolerate criticism or views that questioned the government’s performance on the ground.
He accused the AAP government of presenting what he described as a “facade” of honesty, patriotism and achievements in education and healthcare.
Pargat Singh also targeted the state government over the law-and-order situation in Punjab. Referring to two murders reported a day earlier, he alleged that the state had witnessed an unprecedented deterioration in law and order.
He said the Congress would focus on strengthening professionalism in the police force if it returned to power in Punjab.
Pargat Singh’s remarks came in the wake of the AAP’s decision to suspend MLA Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana from its primary membership.
