Chandigarh, May 13, 2025 –Youth Akali Dal National President and Shiromani Akali Dal Core Committee Member Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for his recent praise of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, calling it an “insult to the sacrifices and trauma of Punjab.”
In a Facebook Live session, Jhinjer accused Randhawa of glorifying a figure synonymous with “repression and betrayal” in Punjab's collective memory. “From Operation Bluestar to the SYL canal betrayal, Indira Gandhi’s tenure left deep scars on Punjab. Randhawa’s remarks are not ignorant—they are a calculated attempt to rewrite history,” said Jhinjer.
He also reminded viewers of allegations that Randhawa’s father celebrated the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib in 1984, and said that Randhawa’s recent praise for Indira Gandhi only adds salt to old wounds.
“Calling her a role model is a direct insult to the Sikh community and the people of Punjab,” Jhinjer said.
Criticizing Randhawa's statement that "India needs another Indira Gandhi," Jhinjer warned, “Punjab will never forget what Indira Gandhi did. We will never let those mistakes repeat.”
Jhinjer linked Indira Gandhi’s policies—especially the SYL water dispute and central suppression of Punjab—to long-standing suffering in the state. He suggested that Randhawa’s comments may not be isolated but part of a larger political design.
“It feels like a script is being re-enacted. We saw this in 1992. Are we being set up again for 2027?” he asked.
He also referenced recent media narratives and interviews, including those involving the family of KPS Gill, saying they are part of a broader attempt to distort Punjab’s historical truth and confuse the youth.
Jhinjer ended his statement with a strong message to Punjab’s youth: “This is not just a reaction—it’s a call to vigilance. Don’t be misled. Ask the right questions. Remember the truth.”
