Ludhiana (Punjab), May 13, 2025: In a major step towards empowering residents living within the Lal Lakir, Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora today conferred proprietary rights to 158 households under the “Mera Ghar Mere Naam” scheme.
The certificates were distributed at a special event held in the Langar Hall of Gurudwara Sadh Sangat Sahib, Haibowal Kalan.
Speaking at the event, MP Sanjeev Arora described the initiative as a landmark move aimed at resolving long-standing property ownership issues in the Haibowal area (Ward No. 65).Residents had been demanding legal ownership of their properties for the past 50 years.
Arora emphasized the far-reaching impact of the scheme, stating that it not only addresses decades-old challenges but also restores dignity and opens new economic avenues for residents.
“This scheme grants legal recognition to residents and enables them to leverage their property for financial growth—whether through loans or future planning for their families,” he said.
The initiative was met with overwhelming appreciation from residents of Haibowal, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to Arora for fulfilling a long-pending demand. Earlier this month, 990 beneficiaries in Sunet and Barewal were similarly granted proprietary rights at a function held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan on May 6.
At that event, Arora had announced that Haibowal would be covered in the next phase—a promise fulfilled today.
Arora, the AAP candidate from Ludhiana (West), said the issue of Lal Lakir ownership frequently came up during his campaign meetings in Sunet, Barewal, and Haibowal.
“Legal ownership empowers residents to use their property as a financial asset, promoting independence and stability,” he added.
Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO highlighted the state government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to strengthening socio-economic security and addressing public grievances.
He stated that land records were carefully verified by revenue officials to ensure rightful ownership. Commending Arora’s efforts, he said, “The people of Ludhiana are fortunate to have such a dynamic, development-oriented leader.”
Also present at the event were Ludhiana Mayor Principal Inderjeet Kaur, Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Parashar, Deputy Mayor Prince Johar, Aradhana Mani Sai, and Trishul Aul.
