Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan’s term extended

New Delhi, August 5, 2026: The Central Government has approved a one-year extension in the service of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan.
According to an official order issued on Wednesday, the extension will take effect after the completion of his current tenure on August 22, 2026. He will continue to serve as Home Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs until August 22, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension has been granted by relaxing the provisions of Fundamental Rule 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
Govind Mohan is a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Sikkim cadre. The order was issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
