Every big crime in Punjab linked with Akalis: Amarinder
Moga, February 17 (babushahi.com bureau): Demanding the resignation of the Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra for shielding the main accused in the infamous Patiala gangrape and suicide case, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said that there was an Akali link to every big criminal act.
Addressing public meetings in support of the party candidate Vijay Sathi in various villages, including Sanghewala, Mothamwali, Bukkanwala, Daroli Bhai and Baghewala, here today, Capt Amarinder referred to the revelations made by the dismissed cop Assistant Sub Inspector Naseeb Singh saying that it was Rakhra who had shielded the rape accused and he (the ASI) had been made a scapegoat to save Rakhra. “Rakhra has no right to continue as a minister and he must be sacked if he does not resign of his own”, he asserted.
The former Chief Minister pointed out, it was such a shameful incident of crime and as it turned out to be the criminals were protected by an Akali minister. “With ministers like Rakhra shielding and protecting the criminals involved in heinous crimes like rape it is not surprising that there are on an average 40 rapes reported every month in Punjab”, he said Asserting that every big and serious crime in the state had an Akali link, he pointed out, in Amritsar an Akali leader close to Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, the brother in law of Sukhbir Badal, killed an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police as he objected to the harassment of his daughter. Similarly, he added, in Ludhiana, a close aide of Majithia mercilessly beat up an Assistant Inspector General of Police and broke his leg. “Besides, the incidents of Akali leaders and their kin harassing and humiliating the cops have become a routine affair”, he pointed out.
Making an impassioned appeal to the people of Moga to vote for Congress, he cautioned them that in case they (the people of Moga) did not apply breaks on the Akalis there will be total lawlessness and anarchy in Punjab. He pointed out, with the police officials like Ravinderpal Singh of Amritsar killed by an Akali leader for trying to protect the honour of his daughter, Naseeb Singh, dismissed to protect Rakhra and SS Mand beaten up and his leg broken, the police force was demoralised. Capt Amarinder said, it was important to put a leash on the Akalis lest they push the state into anarchy and it will be difficult to bring it back to normalcy. “They can be made to learn lessons from Moga”, he urged the people, while cautioning them against wasting their vote.
