Chandigarh, December 8, 2021:
A new state body 'Chandigarh and Haryana Journalists Union' affiliated to Indian Journalists Union was formed here in a meeting held at Press Club Chandigarh on Wednesday. Senior Journalist Ram Singh Brar was elected as the State President of the newly formed registered unit, Nisha Sharma Vice President, Surinder Goel Secretary General, Abhishek Takshak Secretary and Krishan Gilhotra elected as Cashier. Besides this, Senior Journalists Balwant Takshak and Balwinder Singh Jammu will be Executive Members of the union.
On the occasion, President Chandigarh Press Club Nalin Acharya, Senior Journalist and Former Public Relation Officer Vinod Kashayap , President PCJU Chandigarh Unit Jai Singh Chhibber, Senior Journalist Srikant Acharya , Pardeep Sharma and others were present.
In the meeting, it was decided to raise voice for the cause and problems of the journalists and further take up demands of the journalists with the state government.
It was also discussed that the state unit would pursue conversation with the state government to provide assistance to the families of the journalists who died due to Covid 19. Further, it was said that the issues of making the accreditation process easier and reducing the pension age limit from 60 to 55 years would also be taken up on priority. Besides this, the issues of increase in Pension amount, cashless medical facility for the non-accredited journalists were also discussed in the agenda.
A delegation of the Union would be having meetings with the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Director of State Public Relations Department soon to submit a demand letter regarding problems of the journalists.
